India has reached a major environmental milestone with the designation of Shekha Jheel Bird Sanctuary in Aligarh, Uttar Pradesh as a Ramsar Wetland Site. This takes India’s total to 99 Ramsar sites, bringing the country closer to a historic century in wetland conservation.

Announced by Union Minister Bhupender Yadav, the recognition highlights India’s growing leadership in biodiversity protection and climate resilience under the vision of Narendra Modi.

Located in Aligarh, Shekha Jheel Bird Sanctuary plays a crucial role along the Central Asian Flyway, serving as a seasonal home for migratory birds like the Bar-headed Goose and Painted Stork.
