The grand Rato Machhindranath Jatra 2026 has officially begun in Lalitpur, Nepal! 🌧️
Known as the valley’s longest and most historic chariot procession, this 1600-year-old festival honors Rato Machhindranath, the god of rain and prosperity.
Starting from Pulchowk in Patan, the massive chariot carrying the deity is pulled across the city over two months, symbolizing faith, unity, and hope for timely rains and abundant harvests.
Legend traces this tradition back to Narendra Deva, who brought the deity from Assam to end a devastating drought in the Kathmandu Valley.
